Choir II consists of 40-50 children, mostly aged 9 years and up. This choir rehearses for an hour and thirty minutes every Monday, September through early May. Children are encouraged to arrive up to a half hour early for rehearsal to do individual memory and skills testing for sticker rewards, helping the choir keep up their memory work in an enjoyable and friendly manner. This choir is involved in 3 major concerts per season, performing 11-12 selections in each of the major winter and spring concerts (both solo selections and others jointly with other choirs of the organization). Highlights for this choir are a one-day retreat at a ranch setting, west of Toronto; a one-day drama workshop, choreographing a selection of works that are refined for performance in the spring concert; and a one-day festival workshop/concert event with several other choirs from the Greater Toronto area, under an internationally recognized guest clinician. Every child in this choir participates in a weekly, individualized theory and sight-singing programme. Children entering this choir need to demonstrate music reading and ear training skills that will allow them to keep up with following music on the page, and children who have piano background and show good singing skills are given extra help to catch up with the group as needed. Private vocal coaching is offered to children in this choir. Auditions for this choir are done in a teaching manner, allowing the conductor and the child to explore singing, music reading and ear training skills.
