Music Education 🎶

We are committed to bringing every chorister
to a high level of musical literacy.

Our integrated program of theory, ear training and sight-singing is individualized to the skills and the needs of each chorister. Age- and skill-appropriate activities are taught to every singer in Choirs I, II and III, with senior chorister mentors an important part of the program.

Music Theory

Choristers are required to complete an intensive theory and solfege program called A Young Singers’ Journey (YSJ), a series of five books co-authored by Linda Beaupré, BCC’s founder. Our friendly Theory Co-ordinator and parent volunteer theory markers review and track progress of each chorister on a weekly basis, offering individual tutoring during choir practice as needed.

Ear-Training & Sight-Singing

Our Sight-Singing Co-ordinator and group leaders (comprised of music staff and volunteers) review and track the progress of each chorister on a weekly basis, offering individual tutoring during rehearsal as needed. Choir II and Choir III Cantabile singers are expected to practice 25 minutes of home sight-singing.

"I am very impressed by the quality of the programming at BCC. They provide an excellent foundation in sight-singing, theory and ear training, while fostering musicianship, active listening, and co-operation. The leadership is excellent, and most importantly, my daughter enjoys the music and
the friendships she has made."
