Magdelena Ho-yan Tang is a teacher, researcher and choral conductor based in Toronto and Hong Kong. Currently, she is also a teaching artist for choirs at Sistema Toronto. As a choral conductor, she has previously worked with children’s choirs such as Boston Children Chorus and Singapore International School (Hong Kong). A graduate of Butler University and Boston University, she studied and sang under the baton of Henry Leck, Ann Howard Jones, Scott Allen Jarret and André de Quadro. In 2022, she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong. Her dissertation, “The Singing Public in Hong Kong: Choral Music as Social Life'' emphasises the corporeal aspects of choral music in relation to the making of social life, including notions of identity, performative aspects of collective singing, and public space. She has presented her works at the Royal Musical Association, International Society for Music Education and Hong Kong Studies Symposium. Her work has been published in Music and Politics.
